Stories The digital cave and the new frontiers of contemporary photography Text by Jacopo Mantovani Add to bookmarks A new approach to thinking around the future. Images not just for their own sake, but fuelled by a renewed need to create solid storytelling to communicate contemporary design. The need for new communication methods is definitely a hot topic these days – a time bristling with restrictions and prohibitions – to such an extent that it has cemented the need for new digital formulas and a variety of approaches. Since time immemorial, human beings’ intrinsic need to share has found its own expressive outlets – from cave paintings to the hyperconnected digital applications of today. A neural network of experiences, of emotions and of the need for storytelling. Courtesy Adrianna Glaviano Since time immemorial, human beings’ intrinsic need to share has found its own expressive outlets – from cave paintings to the hyperconnected digital applications of today. A neural network of experiences, of emotions and of the need for storytelling. Now, more than ever, communication is exploring new ways of building content and creating narratives that can effectively dovetail with the new digital platforms and apply constantly changing paradigms in step with the times. Embracing this spirit, we have come to the conclusion that in order to be able to properly discuss a creative theatre such as design, we needed to address its actors – the “communicators on the sidelines” – in particular. Visual communication is certainly the most immediate means of reaching out to people, in a society in which digital devices and social networks have effectively become an extension of the mind. Courtesy Federico Torra This has sparked a need for a dedicated weekly section, made up of silent people who, through their authorial lenses, allow us to progress this story.
