Here are all the names Around 600 participants from 32 countries and 22 international Design Schools and Universities from 13 countries entered the 25th edition of the SaloneSatellite. Taking part for the first time this year were designers from Prince Sultan University (Saudi Arabia), Belgrade Business and Arts Academy of Applied Studies from Serbia, Michael Graves College in the United States and Xi'An Jiaotong-Liverpool University from China. Chaired again in this 13th edition of the SaloneSatellite Award by Paola Antonelli - Senior Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design of the MoMA (New York) - the jury of experts in the field met on April 17th and assessed the projects nominated by the 2024 exhibitors, presented in an exhibition in Pavilions 5 – 7. Marva Griffin Wilshire, founder and curator of SaloneSatellite, presented the award ceremony held at SaloneSatellite before a large audience; on stage were Paola Antonelli and Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano “I'm happy for the young people who achieved their goal. When I created this project, the young designers had just one wish: to enter the Salone del Mobile.Milano and make themselves known. As a journalist I worked for American and Italian magazines and also collaborated with the Salone. I turned to Manlio Armellini who made the space available to me. This is how the SaloneSatellite was founded,” recalls Marva Griffin. In addition to the usual diploma of the award, the SaloneSatellite Award 2024 will be joined as a trophy by a metal sculpture designed by the artist Daniele Basso – who formerly made his debut at the SaloneSatellite – and inspired by the Singer “chair for very short visits” designed by Bruno Munari in 1945. I collaborated with the designer Marcel Wanders until the closure of his studio, then I got involved as a designer and planner. I wanted to create my own product, and for this lamp I worked on shape, light, materials, movement. This award means a lot, it's a recognition of my work as a designer,” says Zhen Bian of studio Ololoo. SECOND PRIZE FILIPPO ANDRIGHETTO, Denmark “Veliero” bookshop . “I studied to become an architect, I've been passionate about design for two years and I moved to Copenhagen. I find the Scandinavian scene rich and interesting. I use natural and honest materials. This award is a recognition of my work, it means that I am on the right path,” says Andrighetto. THIRD PRIZE EGOUNDESIGN, Italy “Voronoi” set of 3D printed brass cups” “We were inspired by a trip to Asia, where we observed the art of “Stone Balancing”, a meditative and playful practice of placing stones one on top of the other. A strong vision that we have realized with 3D4Mec, the first company to have developed industrial 3D printers for brass. It is a set of cups assembled vertically through a system of magnets. An object with multiple souls: meditative, playful and functional. A big thank you to Satellite and to Marva who has always been supportive of our ideas. A recognition of our daily work,” says Luca Mercadent, one of the five founders of Egoundesign. SPECIAL MENTION COLLECTIF MOHAMED ROMANI with CHEMS EDDINE MECHRI and AHMED BSSILA For Creative Tunisia, ONAT lamp by Fibra Collection. The designers will go to China in residence for a month as guests of the Rong Design Library in the Yuhang district of Hangzhou. The second will be a conversation between Nasir Kassamali, co-founder of Luminaire and Tony Chambers on best practices for presenting, communicating, and selling design. Another innovation this year is the collaboration with FrankBros, the first online design store with a curatorship, which will launch a selection of products created for the SaloneSatellite, giving it permanent visibility.
