A triumph of art and technology, the Pedestal Collection combines Saarinen's more sculptural approach ("After all, Eero was first and foremost
a sculptor", as Florence loved to say) with his understanding of the overall architectural vision.

Product description
The famous Saarinen collection for Knoll was his last project before his death in 1961 and it was with this collection that he realised his ideal of formal unity. Eero Saarinen called himself a “form giver” and everything he designed had a strong sculptural quality.
In his purist approach to architecture and interior design, Eero Saarinen sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. “The underside of typical chairs and tables makes for a confusing, unrestful world,” explained Saarinen. “I wanted to clear up the slum of legs.” In his Pedestal Collection, which includes dining, coffee and side tables, Saarinen realised his ideal of formal unity.
