Sloft magazine: mini apartments ripe for discovery

Sloft Magazine, Edition 05
The latest issue of the independent French architecture and design magazine travels to New York, Bristol, Marseille, Pantin and Paris to explore the future of home living
One of the questions that anybody living in large cities, or chooses to live in small flats ask themselves is how one sets about furnishing a home with a small square footage. This is where the creativity of architects and interior designers comes in: from mezzanines to concealed furniture, by way of made-to-measure furnishings and other solutions.
One particular publication has decided to celebrate the art of optimising smaller spaces, turning them into places absolutely on a par with any penthouse. Sloft Magazine is a Paris-based independent architecture and design magazine edited by Jean Desportes. Its focus is very, very specific - Sloft Magazine concentrates exclusively on spaces measuring between 15 and 70 square metres, narrated by those who inhabit them. The aim is to shine a light on creative solutions to the challenges of contemporary living in urban spaces, from the cost of living to the cost of real estate, to pollution, traffic congestion and stress.
This fifth edition touches down in New York, Marseille, Bristol, Paris and Pantin, featuring flats in which no detail is left to chance. Amongst others, starred chef Julien Sebbag unveils his new Parisian home, designed with his architect friend Julien Sebban, founder of the Uchronia agency, while principal dancer Germain Louvet poses for Charlotte Robin inside his home, showing off his technical expertise and expounding on his career in the dance world.
