JABARA SIDEBOARD

The sideboard JABARA, signed by Shinsaku Miyamoto, is much more than just a ‘physically-present’ piece of contemporary design. It has been envisaged as a ‘sensory experience’, arousing nostalgia for the past and deeply-rooted sentiments. The "energy" that emerges from the unusual cut of the solid wood processed by the able hands of the master cabinet-makers, gives a reassuring appearance to the ensemble. The elegant sliding doors were inspired by Japanese styles, clearly visible in the traditional slim vertical lines of the yoshido doors decorated with a sequence of cane elements. The delightful ‘heaviness’ and the comforting sound of wood rubbing as the doors slide bring Japanese traditional homes and the shoji doors into focus. Like magic, sliding doors lead to curiosity gradually revealing the interior of the sideboard. The drawer front of this gem of craftwork have been covered in thick leather. A hint of padding on the front of the drawers guarantees softness to touch.
