Magazines from the world Down the Salone del Mobile memory lane Down the Salone del Mobile memory lane The Indian magazine Design Pataki is keeping the spotlight trained on the Salone del Mobile even in the year in which “the most significant design fair in the world” was prevented from taking place, telling its Indian readers about the beginnings of the Milanese event and how it became an international point of reference, highlighting a selection of iconic products and stands from the last few years. The very first edition of the Salone del Mobile, the start of the entire show, was held in 1961, when a group of furniture makers decided to reach out to countries outside Italy with a sectoral fair in what was then, and still is, the financial capital of Italy – Milan. As we count down the days to “supersalone,” the journalist Nuriyah Johar has entitled her article “A Tribute To The Foremost Design Fair – Down the Memory Lane with Salone Del Mobile.Milano.” It is a true homage to such a keenly awaited event, a symbol of a way of working and of interpreting modern industry, and a nostalgic nod to the last few missed editions. A tribute that plays out in a series of iconic products and stands from the last ten years. “Cut to 59 years later, and Salone Del Mobile is now the most significant design fair in the world. Every spring, designers, buyers, and brands from all across the globe flock to Milan discover what’s new in the design world. Salone is indisputably the biggest event of the year, kickstarting the design calendar and setting the tone for the months that follow. The year 2020 however, tells a different tale. Italy was hit catastrophically hard in the early months of the COVID 19 pandemic, resulting in Salone Del Mobile getting postponed, and then cancelled for the year altogether. As the virus spread, most design shows and events across the globe followed suit. Design Pataki attended the press conference for what would have been the 59th edition of the Salone del Mobile in February, with great anticipation for the fair. Now, we can only wait for the fair to return with a bang in 2021.” Credits Original text: Nuriyah Johar Photo: courtesy of Salone del Mobile.Milano Magazine: Design Pataki Publisher: Design Pataki Read full article 11 August 2021 Add to bookmarks Add to bookmarks Share
