“A project is never born from a person’s mind, but it is the result of a group of people working together. I have worked with Lorenzo Porro for a long time, and we often tell each other stories. One of the stories that came out some time ago was: can we draw a table that doesn’t have a precise position? A round table has no leader. And then, is it possible to mix this kind of almost religious model of conviviality with a slightly more friendly way of sitting around this table? And we put those rotating trays that you always find on Chinese tables, but made with a little more craftsmanship. This is the story of Materic”.

Materic oval version

The Materic table designed in 2017 changes its face thanks to an upside-down assembly, where the black stained ash usually used for the base is now used for the top, a dark veined surface only interrupted by the central flush tray, and the conical base is expertly made in metal, matt satin stainless steel. The result has an extraordinary visual impact, between glamor, industrial and futurist.

The wooden top is available in all the wood of the collection, and the metal base is available in inox matt satin steel and brunished brass finishes.

The table comes in three top sizes, Ø 1600 mm, Ø 1800 mm and Ø 2000 mm, all fixed and with a rotating central disc; thanks to its generous size, it ensures maximum comfort for 6 or 8 people sitting around the table.

The Materic table, designed by Piero Lissoni, is a sculptural object where the absolute simplicity of design is juxtaposed to the sophistication of materials and workmanships.
Materic features a round and tapered table top, laying on a truncated cone as a base and it’s available in 2 version: top in marble with wooden base and wooden top with metal base.
The top in marble, available in 7 fine nuances ranging from verde rameggiato to the more traditional white Carrara marble or in all the wood essences of our collection. The table top can also feature a rotating tray in the middle. The base is made up of 12 natural ash or black stained solid ash boards that are turned and connected to one another with finger joints so as to obtain a perfect truncated cone with a distinct wood grain.

The wooden top is available in all the wood of the collection, and the metal base is available in inox steel and brunished brass finishes.
The table comes in three top sizes, Ø 1600 mm, Ø 1800 mm and Ø 2000 mm, all fixed and with a rotating central disc; thanks to its generous size, it ensures maximum comfort for 6 or 8 people sitting around the table.
The wooden top can be realized in all the dimensions.

The 1600 mm marble top, either matt or glossy, is available in one of the following finishes: Carrara white, grey valentine, Sahara noir, verde rameggiato, covelano fantastico, calacatta oro or paonazzo.
The 1800 mm marble top, either matt or glossy, is available in one of the following finishes: Carrara white, grey valentine, verde rameggiato, covelano fantastico, calacatta oro or paonazzo.
The 2000 mm marble top, either matt or glossy, is available in one of the following finishes: Carrara white, grey valentine, calacatta oro or paonazzo.
The rotating tray in the middle is perfectly flush with the top and is cut from the same marble slab thanks to the precision of water-jet technology. The use of the same slab and the coplanarity ensure a spectacular uniformity of the top surface and texture.

Materic is available also with top in marble with wooden base.

Porro’s ongoing research into materials, manufacturing techniques and shapes that generate emotions revolves once again around Materic, the table project conceived in 2017 by Piero Lissoni with the idea of experimenting with the versatility of matter in elementary geometries.
Part of the 2022 collections is the version of Materic with a new oval tabletop and a truncated cone base, both in brushed Latte ash, or both in brushed black stained ash or both in brushed olive ash.
The base is also available in matt satin stainless steel or burnished brass finish, both can be combined with the top in brushed Latte ash, brushed black painted ash or brushed olive ash.
A silent object epitomizing visual harmony, poetically minimal, vibrating in space and enchanting with the delicate nuances of nature.

Production process

The base is made up of 12 black stained, dark-brown stained, sandblasted natural solid ash boards that are turned and connected to one another with finger joints so as to obtain a perfect truncated cone with a distinct wood grain, the base can be also completely in metal, covered with a metal plate in inox steel or burnished brass finishes.
