SaloneSatellite Award 2024
In the year of the 25th anniversary of the event devoted to the under-35s, the award set up by SaloneSatellite in 2010 to incentivise the designers’ work, ushered in a new departure. As a testament to taking part, and a memento of the award, a trophy was added to the usual diploma. The idea for the metal sculpture – “Riflettendo” – came from the artist Daniele Basso, himself a former SaloneSatellite debutant. Invited to produce the piece, he decided to take the Singer chair “for very brief visits” designed by Bruno Munari in 1948 as his inspiration for the tribute to the young designers. In his interpretation, the famous chair/sculpture is made in red, to chime with the image of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, and is intended to transmit the teachings of the Master, a cross-cutting point of reference for Italian and international design. “Find another way of doing things,” he suggested, somewhere between theory and practice. The call to change mindsets on design and on what surrounds us would seem to dovetail with the commitment and creativity showcased year upon year at SaloneSatellite. Advice that the Award intends to carry on spreading.
